TPRS (Fun and easy method) with 5 years of experience I had 3 years of teaching English to Koreans before I started teaching Korean. Because of these experiences, I assumed that teaching Korean would be easy for me. However, the reality was different from my imagination. Since I had never been a beginner in the Korean language, it was very hard for me to relate to the students. In the beginning, I had a hard time understanding how non-Koreans process Korean in their brain as a language. So, I had to put a lot of effort to see Korean sentences from the student’s perspective. Now with more experience, I have much more understanding of how students would feel when they encounter new sentences or expressions.

I have more than four years of experience as a language teacher and have worked with over 200 students from various backgrounds. I completed the Korean Language Teachers Training Program at the Language Education Institute of Seoul National University. I received a top-grade score (top 4% nationwide) in the Korean section of the national college entrance exam, reflecting my strong sensitivity to language. (In Korean, the verb comes last). For example, in English, we say "What are you talking about?" But in Korean, we say "What kind of saying is it? (=무슨 말이에요?)" Also, in English, we say "Happy birthday." But in Korean, we say "Birthday congratulations (= 생일 축하해요)." Example like these show just how different English and Korean are. If we literally translate English to Korean, it sound very unnatural. So, when we study Korean, memorizing natural Korean sentences is very important.
