How to say what’s your name? in Thai

First of all, let’s learn some vocabulary

what = a-rai
Is  = kue
your = khong khun
name = chue

To translate directly from English to Thai, we will have the sentence like
“chue khong khun kue a-rai”
Well, this is not wrong , you will still get the answer from the listener.
But to speak in the same way as Thai native speakers, we don’t use that sentence. 
To ask for someone’s name, we will simply say

khun chue a-rai

literally means “You Name What”

The same thing goes  with “surname”.

Surname or last name , in Thai we say “naam sa gun”

Now , can you tell me how to ask “What’s your surname?”.
I give 3 seconds to think.  3 … 2 …. 1 
time’s up. Yes, you’re right. 
The answer is
khun naam sa gun a-rai

When you answer these questions, you can simply tell your name or surname straightaway.

As I commute into the city for work every day, I always do my best to avoid the rush hour traffic, which is not always easy. I usually get up at 6 am and catch the bus at 6.30 to beat the heavy traffic, and go for a relaxing coffee before starting work. 

 However, about 2 weeks ago, I slept in on a monday morning and didn’t wake up until 8am,missing the early bus, and not catching the next one until 8.30, which i knew would mean being late for work due to the traffic.

Normally the bus ride into the city centre takes about 45 minutes, but because of taking the bus during the peak rush hour it now took almost 2 hours. The traffic was unbelievable, and cars were bumper to bumper, moving at a snail’s pace, for the entire journey.

What made it even worse was that the bus was full, and passengers were packed like sardines , which also meant I had to stand for the full journey. To try and pass the time, I just read the  news using my mobile phone, as well as messaging my boss to let him know I would be late for work due to the heavy traffic.

I’m not the  most patient person and being stuck in a traffic jam like this is something I really hate, and always something I try to avoid. I also take pride in always being on time for work, and felt absolutely terrible  to be over an hour late on this day. I now set 2 alarms every night to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.

こんばんは！
Japanese daily life podcast のAtsushiです。
このPodcastは、日本語を勉強しているみなさんに向けたPodcastです。

今日は、関西空港で食べてほしいもの、について話します。

関西空港は長い期間工事しています。
まだ続いていますが、最近、飲食店がいくつかきれいになってオープンしました。

僕は北海道から大阪へ帰る機会があるので、今までよりもよく関西空港を利用するようになりました。
その時にいつも食べる物について紹介します。

それは神座かむくら、というラーメン屋さんです。

スープがとてもあっさりしているラーメンです。
普通のラーメンよりはヘルシーな味がします。

スープに関して調べて見ましたが、社員の人も何が原材料か知らないぐらい企業秘密なようです。とんこつでもないし、味噌でもない。塩か醤油がベースのような感じで、野菜からスープを作っているような、そんな感じですね。どこにも書いてないので、本当は何か入っているかはわかりません。

社長はもともとホテルのコックさんをしていたことと、その後に洋食屋をしていたようなので、野菜スープのようなものがユニークなラーメンを作るヒントになったのかもしれません。

そんなかむくら、ですが、ラーメンの名前はその名もズバリ、おいしいラーメン、です。
名前においしい、を入れるあたりがすごいですね、自信にあふれてる感じですね。

実際、本当にあっさりしてて、でもクセになるラーメンですね。

ですので、関西空港に着いた時、もしくは、関西空港から帰る時、もし時間があれば、ぜひ一度試してみてください。

ちなみに、他の飲食店もあります。
いろいろありますが、大阪の名物、うどんやたこ焼きも食べれますので、これらを楽しむのも良いですね。

ということで、今回は関西空港で食べてほしいものについて話しました。個人的には、高校生の時からかむくらのラーメンは食べていたので、思い出深い食べ物の一つです。
