As an adult, we always experience solitude differently compared to how we experienced it as children. Working, taking care of children and making money represent the core of an adult's daily life. In nowadays' society, all kinds of resources are limited which requires us to do our best to get them, but only few of us get promoted and earn more money. Competition or peer pressure exists everywhere. Your education and your job performances are not always that important. Sometimes, it seems like the ability to keep a good relationship with your boss and colleagues is the key to being successful. We called this EQ (emotional quotient). Even if you have a high IQ, you'd better intentionally hide it to avoid being envied by others and making enemies. People tend to think about those who are looking to make benefits as opportunists. It reminds me of the nature of my relationships with others many years ago. We used the word "steely" to describe it which means nothing could break it. Now, we use the word "plastic" to describe the current interpersonal relationship which means it can be broken easily.
