Fresh Does "fresh" have the meaning of "young"? Can "fresh" be used for people, not vegetable or fruit? 1. We were fresh at that times When people in their 50ties are seeing their photos taken when they are in their 20ties. Can they say "We were fresh at that times."? 2. You looks fresh. When I meet someone like my friend's friend for the 1st time, can I say "You look fresh."? Thanks in advance!

Yes, the word "fresh" can sometimes have the connotation of being young or full of life, but its use with people can vary depending on context, and sometimes it might sound a bit unusual or confusing, especially if it's not used in the right setting. Let's look at your two examples: 1. "We were fresh at that time" This could work if you're using "fresh" to mean youthful or full of energy and vitality. It’s a bit informal and somewhat poetic, but it might not be the most common way to express this idea. People would more commonly say, "We were young back then" or "We were full of energy in those days." Using "fresh" in this context could work if you want to convey the idea of being new to life, inexperienced in a positive way, or simply young. It's understood but not as typical as other options. 2. "You look fresh" This is a bit trickier. While "fresh" can sometimes mean well-rested or vibrant, telling someone "You look fresh" could be interpreted in different ways. It could mean: They look well-rested or full of energy (which is positive). In some cases, "fresh" can also mean bold or forward in a slightly negative or flirtatious way (especially in older slang). To avoid confusion when meeting someone for the first time, it would be better to say something like: "You look great!" "You seem full of energy!" "You look so vibrant!" In summary: "We were fresh at that time" is understandable but less common than simply saying young or full of energy. "You look fresh" could work in informal settings but might be misinterpreted, so using another compliment might be safer for a first meeting.

Fresh doesn't work that way when referring to people -- at least not in North American English. If you say someone is "fresh" it is more likely to be taken in a negative way. It would be more associated with a person that talks back and is generally a bit disrespectful. You could say someone is "like a breath of fresh air" which is a positive statement but obviously doesn't really relate to age. "You look fresh" works, but would not really suggest you're saying they look young. Just not tired.
