What is your opinion on the best way to watch a movie or TV series in your target language and why? Do you watch using subtitles in the target language, in your main language or don't use them at all and just try to listen in and catch what's being said?
As for me, I'm studying Chinese so 99% of the material has hard-coded Chinese subtitles. I avoid using English ones, but find myself not paying attention to what I'm watching, but only reading into what's appearing on the bottom of the screen... And they speak rather fast...
As for Russian or any other language, I just listen in. Might or might not put English subtitles, but only to grasp the concept quicker.
What do you do and what would you advise?
Well, whenever I used to watch English movies, I'd watch them undubbed in their original language along with subtitles. Sometimes it'd get frustrating when you're constantly looking at the subtitles and trying to understand the situation and at the same time, don't wanna miss the action too.
However, it started to get better. Slowly and gradually, my English and listening and understanding skills improved and I no longer needed to be so conscious of what was written in the subtitles. I would just watch the movie and my eyes automatically caught up with subtitles and I understood almost everything.
You wanna know what's the best thing about this - you learn new words as well as your listening skills get better.
So I'd suggest y'all to start watching Korean, Japanese, English, Italian movies in their own language with English subtitles (if your goal is to improve English). Unless you're watching Lord of The Rings or Fast and Furious :P
