Movies dubbed to Spanish have clear pronunciation and slang-free language, but, unfortunately, it's hard to find exact transcriptions of the dubs. The subtitles just don't match. But today is your lucky day. Here's an exact transcript of all the dialogues between Luke and Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. This transcript is based on the Latin American Spanish dub, which you can find on U.S. iTunes and probably on U.S. Netflix, too. Fire up Netflix in a new window and follow along these dialogue lines. After reading them a few times, stop and think about these core points of Spanish grammar:
1. The past tenses: There's only one instance of the Pretérito Imperfecto, and the rest are either Pretérito Perfecto Simple or Pretérito Perfecto Compuesto. Look for them and try to understand why each one is used.
2. Ser vs estar: Stop and think about why ser is sometimes used instead of estar, and viceversa.
3. Direct & Indirect Object Pronouns: Plenty to work here. Some pronouns are attached to verbs, thus making them a bit more difficult to identify.
