As you may of noticed, it is very common for people to message you on italki asking to talk to you. Even though I specifically have it written on my page that I only want certain speakers to practice with for learning Japanese, I still frequently get speakers of other languages messaging me who don't know the language I want to learn. They request me to teach them English, meanwhile I get nothing in return (obviously this is why I ignore these messages). What I found rather surprising (and creepy), is that if I don't reply, some of these strangers go as far as finding me on Facebook and messaging me to help them! This is completely uncomfortable to me. Has this happened to any of you?
Aegis, your type of mentality is ridiculous. The only "information" I have on here is a picture of myself. The fact that people go as far as to bother me on another website about helping them is absurd. Me complaining about it isn't "sensitive", and I'm PRETTY sure that this bothers a lot more people.
I find it interesting that you have a set goal of putting this thread down. Maybe you should focus on something else like learning a language.

Yes, it is a little creepy when the person finds you on another site. It hasn't happened often, but only once or twice to me.
I wouldn't feel bad about taking a screenshot and reporting the member to italki. Italki doesn't tolerate members harassing other members (including making someone uncomfortable) on or off the site, and these pests aren't welcome here. Some guys use italki to "collect" foreign women, so if they're doing nothing but following female profiles, you can report them as well. Something suspicious going on there.
I do appreciate their persistence(;XD) in and sympathize their scarcity for English.I would not act like that even though I have been under more or less such cirmustances.However,honestly I have to agree with Aegis on his point that you may have been giving two much imformation of yourself here,including the picture(no offence,I guess it may look sexy in some guys'eyes from some countrys) and your name(otherwise they would not have found you on facebook).That is why I vote him up...Have a nice day!

I can understand why people are contacting you in hope you'll speak to them. Honestly, I can't find anyone interested in language exchange with me and I was tempted to try something like that, but then I decided that is not appropriate as I don't have anything to offer in return. That's why I'm thinking if I have any other knowledge, despite my native language to offer in return.
If I wouldn't give it a second thought, I'd maybe do the same. A little devil on my shoulder is still whispering to me: maybe someone out there is lonely and can benefit from a simple conversation, who knows :)
