Is Lin Yutang's English native?
Lin Yutang was a Chinese author who moved to America in his forties and wrote most of his books in English. I am reading one of his novels called A Leaf in the Storm for the second time. I have read it once in Chinese version. Some parts of it were really mind-blowing. But I don't feel the same way this time. I am not sure if it is because of me or the lauguage. And I am wondering is Lin Yutang's English native to those whose mother tongue is English?
According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lin_Yutang), he was a very distinguished scholar. A google search also returns http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/l/lin_yutang.html, which shows quotes of his that - to my native English - demonstrate his command of English to be advanced enough to qualify as "native," despite the term being reserved for use toward people who speak the language from birth.
