I came across an article online about artificial blood and would like to share it here. Nara Medical University in Japan announced they succeeded in make blood artificially for a blood transfusion. They developed "artificial red blood cells" which carry oxygen in blood. It's possible to administer the blood to anybody regardless of their blood types. Conventional red blood cells can be reserved for four weeks. In comparison, their artificial ones is able to reserved for two years at room temperature. Hence, the artificial red blood cells can be a savior in medical industry if they put it to commercial use. The way to produce is as follows, 1) Extract hemoglobin from red blood cells for blood donation that was forced to throw away because their preserving period has expired 2) Encapsulate it with artificial lipid membrane I think it will be very useful for isolated islands and places where is located in the middle of nowhere.

It's possible to administer the blood to anybody regardless of their blood type. Conventional red blood cells can be preserved for four weeks. In comparison, their artificial equivalents/substitutes can be reserved for two years at room temperature. Hence, the artificial red blood cells can be a savior in the medical industry if they are put* to commercial use. The method of production is as follows, 1) Extract hemoglobin from donated blood that would otherwise be thrown away because its preserving period has expired. 2) Encapsulate it with an artificial lipid membrane. I think it will be very useful for islands and other isloated places where there is no other source of blood nearby.
*They seems to refer to the artificial red blood cells, so I changed the sentece accordingly. Nice job, on a complex topic.
