What's the meaning of " hook somebody up"? I quoted it from this sentence. "Go to the rental shop and pick yourself up a park board. You 'll have more fun on that, trust me. And ask for Willy, Tell him Tara sent you. He will hook you up." What's the meaning of "hook you up"? Can you tell me? Is it a metaphor? Does it has any other meanings?

One common meaning of the expression is to play matchmaker for two people, thereby "hooking them up".

"Hook up" ... close literal meaning is "to form a connection" One part of the connection is the buyer, and the other is the product he or she wants to buy. As a metaphor, think of two wires that are hooked together so that a computer will run. "Hook up your computer", means to set it up properly, make sure all the wires are in place, that it runs properly.

Its American street terminology basically meaning something like "He will show you the way". This is my understanding of the term. It can also have different meanings but looking at the context of the sentence it seems to mean .."And Ask for Willy, Tell him Tara sent you. He will show you the way"

"hook you up" is grammatically refered to as a phrasal verb (hook up). This is a very informal expression. 1 Hook up means "to meet someone" for business reasons or for personal/social reasons. For example: If you have a good friend who is single and would like to have a boyfriend, you could tell your friend that you will hook her up with your handsome, intelligent brother or another male who you think she would like. It means "introduce your friend to someone who she might like". 2 In the quote that you wrote it menas that Willy will put you in contact with the right person who can help you best. So, Willy will show you the best park board and he may giveyou some advice about how to use it or how to take care of it.
