Can I ask what is the difference betwwen ERODE and CORRODE?
I went to China for a three-week holiday not long ago, and someone asked me a question "How come some buildings look so old outside but new inside?" I said "It is caused by acid rain. The surface of the buildings is corroded." Then he asked "Did you mean the paint is eroded?"
I am a bit confused here. Can anyone explain the difference of these two words to me, like where should I use them? Thanks.
Corrosion is the deterioration of material, usually metal, due to chemical reaction. Erosion is the deterioration of natural substances, such as rock or soil, through the natural action of wind, water, etc.

Erode: wind water or other natural agents wear away soil, rock or land.
Corrode: Destroy or damage (metal, stone, or other materials) slowly by chemical action ie: acid rain

Erosion is when the substance isn't changed at all and comes apart in tiny pieces. Corrosion is when it is "eaten" by other substances.
