"must have been doing" and "cant have been doing" Explain me,please, the difference between "must have been doing" and "cant have been doing".I`ve just learnt about "must have done" and "cant have done" but there were examples as "Tom walked into a wall.He cant have been looking where he was going" and "I was woken up in the night by the noise next door.My neighbours mush have been having a party." I found and understood a bit about "must have done" and "cant have done" but I cant find anything about "must have been doing" and "cant have been doing"..

To add a bit, "can't have" isn't used as widely as "must have", and it's progressive form "can't have been V + -ing" is even rarer, so I don't think you should worry much about this form (even google search returns near zero hits for this construct). Likewise, "He cant have been looking where he was going" in your example sounds a little strange to me. I think most people would say "He must have been not looking where he was going". The reason is because "can't have" expresses a strong disbelieve or a negative belief, that something was not the case. What the sentence expresses is a casual guess about how he walked into a wall, and for that, "must have" works better than "can't have".

I think you're really asking about the difference between "must have done" and "must have been doing". You can understand it as the Imagined Past version of "did" and "was doing".

The use the modal verbs "must have", "can't have" makes guesses or deductions about an action in progress in the past. When we use " must have" , we believe the action definitely happened When we use " can't have" , we believe the action dedinitely did not happen Hope it helps !! Have a nice day
