There are different British accents and each seems to have an attitude to go with it.
The worst is the upper class British accent, which you will find around Cambridge. The British upper class are, for the most part, the most insufferable snobs you could ever meet - completely condescending and superior. Americans don't care for them too much, but it's the attitude that goes with the accent that repels most of us.
On the other hand, the British middle and lower classes are some of the friendliest people I've met. A Liverpool or London accent is very well received, simply because it usually goes with a friendlier attitude.
American girls especially are attracted to non-snobbish British accent, as a few of my male British friends can testify.
What's funny with all Brits talking to Americans is to have them talk about a "fortnight" and receive blank looks from just about all the Americans.
