I think the author is using the spelling of "ketchup" to mean "catch up." The sentence seems to mean "I have a lot of catching up to do, and not enough time." There doesn't seem to be any sensible reason for making this pun. The author probably thought it was clever. I have to say, the grammar in the book you're translating is really terrible. I teach college classes, and if one of my students turned in a paper with grammar like this -- even if it was a creative writing paper -- I would tell the student to please visit the college Writing Center for help with constructing coherent sentences in readable English. There are plenty of fiction authors who know how to bend grammar rules in interesting ways to make their writing sound more like natural speech, but this author, in my opinion, is not doing it successfully.

If you are behind some task or person and you want to be level with them. For example: " I am behind in my school work so I spent Saturday night catching up" Another example : " There goes my friend Eddie , I am going to catch up to him" Also: " You go first, I'll catch up to you later." But if you mean " Ketchup " than that would refer to a tomato and vinegar based sauce that is very popular in the United States. Americans like to use a lot of Ketchup with French fries ( the British call them chips). Keep in mind that in American English the words "catch up" and " Ketchup" are pronounced the same.
