Is it only about meetings? My meeting ran over. Can I use this to talk about something else? For instance: My holiday ran over. This quarantine ran over for too long) Can you give more examples?

We use "ran over" when there is a definite time limit for the activity or event and it took longer than planned or expected. This is usually out of your control. i wouldn't use it for holidays or an approximate Corona virus quarantine period. Was this any help?

When you say my meeting ran over it means your meeting went passed the designated time and you were possibly late for your next appointment. My holiday ran over is unclear. What you might be trying to say is that your holiday ran out. This means you did not possibly have time to visit a place simply because you had no more holiday time due to you. As for the quarantine sentence you would not use ran over here. It would be better to state, " This quarantine is going on for too long " Or if you want to speak more eloquently, " This quarantine has endured for too long " Other examples of using the term "ran over": My meeting was extended. I ran out of time. I exceeded the time limit. Hope this assists you.
