Wikipedia encyclopedia defines: Strawberry generation (草莓族[1]) is a term coined in Taiwan to designate people born in the 1980s (between 1981 and 1991). The general perception is that these people, having grown in a protected environment and with economic prosperity, are less able to withstand pressure or to do hard work. The term is linked to the fact that persons from this generation are generally supposed to have grown in a protected environment (e.g. being overprotected by their parents), just as strawberries are grown in greenhouses and command a high price compared to other fruits. The term is starting to gain prominence in the East Asian press, as it could be a way to designate a rising demographic or psychographic (in terms of consumer behavior). The Strawberry Generation could be the Asian counterpart of the North American and Western European Generation Y.

All the above refer to the Taiwanese strawberry generation , but in general a strawberry generation elsewhere is every generation that loves eating strawberries for them being an attractive delicious fruit with a high content of vitamins A and C. There are also Huckleberry, Blueberry, Cranberry, Bearberry and All berries generations. Since Cherries are not berries I can't include them in the very berry mania ;) *Nonsense !

Well dressed, confident, and energetic, those Taiwanese youngsters who were born in 1980s are labeled sarcastically as "the Strawberry Generation". Strawberries are delicate and great tasting fruit, but very fragile and perishable. The Strawberry Generation is called thus because they also cannot bear the harsh realities of the real world and work very hard. Many Taiwanese youngsters nowadays really are not adaptable to the rules and demands of the adult world. They are often labelled as selfish, arrogant, but also sluggish in work. The cause of this "strawberry state" can be traced back to their childhood. They were raised through the most prosperous era of Taiwan, constantly supplied with maximum care and minimum exposure to danger. Being treated as the most precious baby of the family, they became totally pampered. Please note this is not my personal view, just what I've read on the net.
