Is it difficult to understand Indian accent of English I often talk with my Chinese friends. One of my Chinese friend faces difficulty to understand me. She tells me it is because of my accent. But I think Indian accent is very straight as others , so it is easy to understand. Pls tell me your views. Thanx in advance :)

Hello Neel, I manage to understand both. Maybe if Indian fluent speakers spoke too quickly I would miss some words.

Hi... When you learn a language the accent is always a problem but you get use to it...

Hi Neel, If a student is accustomed to only one or two styles/accents of English, then trying to understand the language in an unfamiliar accent will take time. Native speakers from different countries confuse each other all the time, believe me. ;) It's not just confined to your own Indian accent. Just aim for clear English, spoken easily and perhaps a little slower than you're used to (especially if you speak English daily, and tend to speak faster).

good day neel, just so you know, there are also lots of indians here in our country too and speaks english (even tagalog) clearly. although to some extent, their accent is far different from american, still, we are able to understand them simply because they speak a straight-forward english (i.e. no slang or idioms, just a literal english). I believe that in any case, being simple and straight is the most important thing in communicating with others using other / foreign language. :)

Hi Neel, over the years I have taught many Indian students and their accent did not bother me. However, when you are learning English it is difficult to understand most accents.
