We had one of those in the first eight years of schooling. We called her our class teacher.

we don't have the exact same thing in USA. our teachers are only responsible for the subject they teach. we do have 'homeroom teacher', but in my experience they don't take charge of the students very closely

You already have an answer to your question but I can give you some further suggestions on the English in your post. There are different ways to write this passage. Here is how I would do it. In China, some teachers have to supervise or regulate a certain class, the students’ behavior as well as their minds. Furthermore, the teacher has to teach her subject, not only to this class, but to other classes as well. We call these teachers "班主任" in Chinese. Usually, a "班主任" follows a certain class for at least two years till the students graduate, . And as to the so-called home room class, it means the students stay together for their whole time in high school. They even stay together in the same classroom for three years. This is totally different from the education system in Britain or the US. Maybe "home class teacher", "class supervisor" can work?? I'm not sure. The reason (for my asking) is that that I need to write an essay to introduce my work in English, so could someone help me solve this problem?
