Vivian

I took Vivian's Cantonese class as a beginner. I was nervous to try a language with so many well known obstacles, but she helped me to navigate through the minefield that is Cantonese. She is very supportive, has many excellent resources, and presents the material in a well-organized and professional manner. I highly recommend her for your studies!

Ms. Vivian altered the lesson to suit my needs. She has a clear voice and it was a nice lesson! Also her English is good. ヴィヴィアン先生のレッスンはとてもよかったです。英語で説明ができるし、中国人と練習できるのはありがたい！

Second lesson with Vivian has been just as productive as the first. It started with basic question/answer conversation to test prior knowledge, building new vocabulary to expand on speaking skills. Vivian's slides are incredibly easy to follow. She guided me through pronunciation and words. Once we learned a set of words, I was immediately challenged to create new sentences and questions with them. I really enjoyed having to build these sentences so quickly, as it provided valuable opportunity to apply new vocabulary. Vivian consistently allowed me to speak, respond and ask questions. I feel like I am making good progress in Cantonese.

Vivian did a great job giving a short introduction to tones and Taoism specific terms for my 11th grade IB World Religion students. She was extremely prepared, with note cards and a power point presentation. She was both clear and positive in her interactions with the class. My students LOVED the experience and we are all very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her!

Today's lesson was excellent. We covered numbers, days and dates. Vivian opened the lesson with pronunciation practice to become more comfortable with tones. She then introduced numbers and days, gradually increasing the challenge to do basic math and look up dates on the calendar. We completed extension question exercises at the end. I am pleased with how Vivian was able to adapt to my pace and always kept the work a level ahead to encourage me to apply my new vocabulary immediately. I feel like I have learned a month of Cantonese in only a week.

I had a very good first lesson with Vivian. The introduction was pitched at an appropriate level, focusing on tones and pronunciation. The lesson plan went through basic introductions. Vivian spoke slowly and clearly, making sure that I could hear the tones. She was patient in making corrections. The lesson was an appropriate level of challenge, requiring me to make sentences from the vocabulary and structures I had learned. Using the slides, I was able to read and follow the text and respond correctly. Vivian dedicated a large portion of the question into letting me speak and respond. By the end of the lesson I was about to introduce myself. I enjoyed the structure and pacing the lesson.
