Hoi!
My name is Chris, a Dutch native. I'm 33 years old and I'm teaching Dutch (adults) on this platform.
I see myself as a funny and positive person. I care about making people around me feel comfortable and am very patient. Having these skills made me decide in early 2018 to switch careers and to become a teacher.
I am currently living in Mexico and have lived, besides the Netherlands, in Spain and Vietnam before.

I've been teaching for more than 6 years now and believe that making my students feel comfortable, is one of my strengths.
I like to make some random jokes in my classes to keep the topic interesting and really analyze how you, the student, can improve. I write down notes and am always well prepared so we can be as effective as possible.
I see myself as an all-round teacher, but my focus is usually on fluency, accuracy and speaking techniques (making you sound more natural). Of course I also try to help you to learn new vocabulary (words) and idioms and can help you with any other skill or topic. In general I try to ask you a lot of interesting questions and make it fun as well. I make my own study materials which we can use in the class as well.
You can choose for a communication class. In this class, we can simply talk or discuss a certain topic. I will write down notes and provide you with extra information about the topics we discuss.
My normal steps are these:
1. Intro - small talk
2. Recap of previous class - repeating is knowing :D
3. Controlled practice grammar or vocabulary.
4. Topic -> more free-talk to see if you can combine all learned information.

2018 - 2019
English teacherI worked at this language school as an English teacher, teaching children from 5 years old to adults. I’ve been teaching mostly communication classes, but also created and taught science and math classes. I’ve learned a lot during this period, such as: improving my class management skills, learning how to keep classes interesting, learning to interact with different kind of students, creating lesson plans, creating syllabuses for classes and helping with events.
2018 - 2018
Volunteering teacherI volunteered for this organization in one of their homestays in Ho Chi Minh City. Students ages varied between 16-30 years old and the (mostly conversational) classes took place in an informal environment.
2019 - 2020
Head English teacherI continued my teaching career at Hello English. This center taught me to be more professional and to become more all-round as a teacher. I gained experience in teaching big classes at a university, a high school and at the language center itself.
I also helped out by guiding TEFL students and giving speeches at junior high schools.
2020 - 2021
Online formal teacherI've worked for this platform since the beginning of 2020. I've worked with a certain program, gave it my own twist, and built up a network of private students. I've improved my ability to create a comfortable and productive learning environment.

Online Dutch TeacherWith this job I gained more experience teaching group classes. The classes consist of 3 to 11 students and we use the books Nederlands in Gang and Nederlands in Actie for the courses.

Great lesson! This is exactly what I was looking for.
Chris is very sharp - he has a keen ear and helps me speak more naturally.
He is great at catering the lessons to your needs. For example, I told him that one of my goals is to be able to handle myself in cafes and restaurants in the Netherlands (in Dutch), and we went through exercises specifically about this.
