If you thought social media was just a place for viral dances and cat photos, think again.

Popular influencers on apps like TikTok and YouTube have been boosting book sales with their videos.

And many are watched by millions.

The BookTok community on TikTok has been influential in encouraging users — who are often young people — to buy real books in bookshops.

But a survey from 2022 found that YouTube is actually the most popular place for young people to discover new books on social media.

The survey was done in November 2022 by Nielsen Book Data. It found that in the UK, 34% of people aged between 14 and 25 used YouTube — which is known for its BookTube community — for their book ideas.

TikTok was used by 32%, and 27% went to Instagram to find out about new books.

Some reports in recent years have said that young people are reading less than ever. But according to The Guardian, people in the 14 to 25 age group bought around 61 million books in the UK in 2022.

This was 18% of all books bought.

And it's not just social media where they're finding reading recommendations.

The most common way to discover new books is by talking to friends. Forty-one percent said they do this, while 35% find out about their books by visiting bookshops.

The survey also reported that fantasy action and fantasy adventure stories are the most popular among young people.

初級では勉強しなかった「てしまう」が使えるようになりますよ～。

今日は・・・
３　こまったり残念（ざんねん）に思っていない「てしまう」［4:11］


１）「自分の考えていたことと違（ちが）う結果（けっか）になった」って、どういうこと？？

「コーヒー、ブラックでって言われたのに、ミルクちょっと入れちゃった」
理想的（りそうてき）な結果（けっか）は？

⇒「コーヒーに何も入れないで持っていくこと」が理想（りそう）の結果（けっか）。
・ミルクを入れるつもりはなかった。⇒でも、ミルクを入れた。⇒だから、残念（ざんねん）・こまった。⇒自分の考えていたことと違う結果だから。


２）こまったり、残念に思っていない「てしまう」

「わたしもこのあいだ間違えて、砂糖入れちゃったから、捨てちゃった」「コーヒー一杯（いっぱい）捨（す）てて、地獄（じごく）送（おく）りになる人なんていないよ。」
･･･コーヒーを一杯捨てても地獄にはいかない。つまり、「コーヒーを一杯捨てることは悪いことじゃない」と言っている。

先輩の「捨てちゃった」。後輩の「捨てちゃうのは良心がとがめる」
⇒同じ「捨てちゃう」でも、言っているときの心境（しんきょう）・気持ちが全然ちがう！

例）バイキング・ビュッフェなどの食べ放題の店で「食べきれないから残しちゃった」
例）「このワンピース、安くなってたから、買っちゃった～。いいでしょ～。」

◎言い方（いいかた）が大事（だいじ）！
お金がないのに「買っちゃった～」
良いものを見つけて「買っちゃった！」


★クイズ！「寝ちゃった」★
次のコンテクストで「寝ちゃった」を言ってみてください。
①疲れている日にず～っと見たかったマーブルの映画をアイマックスの映画館に見に行ったのに「寝ちゃった」
②コンパの後、家に帰るつもりだった女の子が気になっている男の人に誘（さそ）われて･･･「寝ちゃった」

◎言い方を変えるとちがうコンテクストが見えてくる！

There's a video on TikTok in which a user takes a jar of seasoning called "Everything But the Bagel" and carefully separates the ingredients into small piles to find out the secret to the recipe.

The video has been viewed almost 2 million times — a sign of just how popular this seasoning mix, made by US company Trader Joe's, has become.

People like to put it on top of bagels and use it in lots of different meals.

However, fans of the mix have been finding out that it's not welcome everywhere in the world.

Signs have been posted at Incheon Airport in Seoul, telling passengers they can't bring jars of the seasoning into the country.

The reason is that one of the ingredients is banned in South Korea.

The mix contains things like sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion and salt — but poppy seeds are the problem.

Poppy seeds are banned in South Korea because they are narcotic-related items, according to the airport. The ban is not new but travelers have said that airports are now cracking down on the seasoning mix.

The seeds are also banned in a number of other countries, including Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

The poppy plant is used to make drugs like heroin and morphine, although the seeds don't contain any opiates.

However, the country worries that the seeds could be contaminated by opiates.

In fact, in the US, members of the armed forces have been advised not to eat products containing poppy seeds in case they affect the results of drug tests.

Drug tests can be very sensitive but experts say that it would be almost impossible to eat enough poppy seeds to feel any narcotic effect.

今日は、オンラインレッスンは良いですよ！について。

スピーキングの練習は、語学学習にとても良い！という話です。みなさん、良く知ってると思います。ですが、していない人もたくさんいると思います。

うまく話せないから。
間違えたくないから。

などなどいろんな理由があると思います。


その理由を超えるいいメリットがありますので、その話をします。

いくつかありますが、今回は1つだけ。
自分がどれぐらい話せるかわかる。ということですね。

動画を見ているだけ、とか、本を見ているだけ、ではどれぐらい自分が向上しているかわからないですね。確認しないといけないです。その為に、週に1回話す時間を作ると成長してるかのチェックはできると思います。確認の為ではなく、スピーキングの向上の為なら、週に2回以上した方がいいような気がします。これは個人的な感覚です。英語のレッスンを週1で受けている時は、忘れないように維持したり、この1週間で学んだことがスピーキングで出せるかの確認をします。週2とか3だと、同じ会話を何回かできるので、よりスムーズに話せる実感があります。前回のうまく話せなかったところを2.3日後にすぐ修正して話せるので、成長スピードは上がりますね。僕が話している方の中には、いろんな先生からほぼ毎日レッスンを受けている、と言っていました。それはなかなか難しいかもしれないですが、英語の学習者としても少なくとも週に1回2回はしたいなと思いますし、日本語の先生としても、週に1.2回は練習するのが良いと思います。
