このポッドキャストでは私の日々の出来事を通して、
日本語をより身近に楽しく感じてもらえたら嬉しいです。
短い間ですがリラックスした気分でどうぞお付き合いください。

知っている人もたくさんいると思いますが、実は7月3日から日本のお札のデザインが新しくなりました！
お札のデザインが変わるのは20年ぶりになりますが
もちろん今まで使っていたデザインのお札も使うことができます。
日本では約20年ごとにデザインが変更されていて、今までに53種類のお札が発行されています。
新しいお札のデザインは1万円札・5千円札・千円札と3種類ありますが
この新しいお札にデザインされている人達を簡単に説明します。

まず1万円札には 「渋沢栄一・しぶさわ えいいち」という人がデザインされています。
彼は日本の実業家であり、日本で初めて銀行を設立した人です。
そして現在の 「東京証券取引所・とうきょう しょうけん とりひきじょ」を設立し
「日本経済の父」と呼ばれています。
まさに日本の経済を作った人ですね。

そして5千円札には 「津田梅子・つだ うめこ」という人がデザインされています。
彼女は現在の「津田塾大学・つだじゅく だいがく」を創立した人です。
約150年前に女性初の留学生の1人として6歳でアメリカへ留学しました。
11年間アメリカで療育を受けた後に帰国して
35歳で現在の東京にある 「津田塾大学」を創立しました。
彼女は今の日本女性の社会進出のきっかけを作った貴重な人ですね。

そして最後の千円札にはちょっと怖そうな男の人がデザインされていますが
彼の名前は「北里柴三郎・きたざと しばさぶろう」といって
世界で初めて「破傷風菌・はしょうふうきん」という「菌の培養・きんの ばいよう」に成功した人です。
そしてその治療法を確立するなど伝染病の予防に大きな功績を上げた世界的な「細菌学者・さいきんがくしゃ」です。
その功績の大きさから、日本における「近代医学の父・きんだいいがくの ちち」とも呼ばれています。

この3名が新しい日本のお札の「顔」になります。
日本で新しいお札を使うときには是非日本らしいデザインや印刷技術にも注目してみてくださいね。

はい、洋平先生です。こんにちは。今日は英語を話す生徒のよくあるミスについてお話ししたいと思います。 
えー、じゃあ早速（さっそく）ですけど、じゃ、レッスン中に、実際に私の生徒が間違えた文を言います。皆さん、どこが違うかちょっと考えてくださいね。じゃ、言いますね
 
①新しい仕事について面接を受けてきた。
 
これは何が間違いかわかりますか。え、じゃあ、正しい文を言いますね。
 
「新しい仕事の面接を受けてきた」
これでいいんですね。で、何が間違ってるかというと、”について” ですよね。「新しい仕事に”ついて”、面接を受けてきた」 
おそらくこの生徒は、Today I've got an interview for a new job の”for”を直訳(ちょくやく）してしまったんだと思います。直訳（literal translation)ですね。
えー、この”について”は、使い方がぜんぜん違うんですね。例えば、
・仕事についての詳細（しょうさい）を教えてください。 
・仕事について詳しい話をしますね。
の”について” なんですね。ですから、えー、aboutに近いんですかね。うん。
で、ここで、「仕事についての面接を受けてきた」と言うことはできません。気を付けてください。
 
えーっと2つ目行きますね。じゃ、皆さんレストランへ行きました。友達とレストラン行きました。 
で、友達が自分の欲しいものを注文しました。あ、じゃあ、私も同じものが欲しいなと思って、店員さんに言います。
 
②私にとって同じものをください。
 
これも何が違うかわかりますか。正しい文を言いますと、えー、
・私にも同じものをください。
・私も同じものをください。
でも、いいですね。で、おそらくこの生徒も The same for me, please. のforを直訳して、「私にとって同じものをください」と言ったんだと思うんですね。うん。”にとって”は、よく『何かと何かを比べている時』に使いますね。
え、例えば、
・私にとってわさびは辛くないです。（他の人は辛いだろうが）、私にとって わさびは辛くないです。
というような使い方をしますねえ。他にも
・私にとってあの人は特別（とくべつ）な存在（そんざい）です。 （あなたにはなんでもない存在かもしれないが）私にとって、あの人は特別な存在です。
 
He/She is special for me. ですね。 
じゃあ、もう2つありますね。え～はい、これもforですね。じゃあ言いますね。
 
③彼女にとってプレゼントを買うところです。
 
これを正しい日本語にするとなんですか。 これは、えー、シンプルですね、
・彼女にプレゼントを買うところです。
 
で、いいんですよ、この「彼女にとって、プレゼントを買うところです」。これを日本人が聞くと、かなり混乱（こんらん）します。彼女にプレゼントを買うのか、彼女が私にプレゼントを買うのか分からないぐらい、おかしな文になっちゃうんですよ。 はい、気を付けてくださいね。じゃあ最後、これもfor です。えー、言いますね。
 
④ 冬にとって準備(じゅんび）をしなければいけませんね。
 
はい、これ英語で言うとWe need to prepare for winter.ですよね。これをじゃあ、日本語にするとどうなりますか。はい、えーっとですね、
・冬に向けて準備をしなければいけませんね。
が、正しいですねえ、もしくは 冬は名詞（noun)で準備も名詞(noun)ですから、
・冬の準備をしなければいけませんね。 
でも、オッケーですよ。
 
どうですか。えー、これは本当によくあるミスなんですよ。えっとfor 英語のfor は多分たくさん意味があると思うんですね。で、それを日本語に直訳してしまうと、とてもおかしなことになりやすいんですよ。
え、ですから、上級者の生徒もよく間違えるんで、初級者、中級者、上級者に関わわらず、え、皆さんもう一度for を勉強しなおしてみてはいかがでしょうか。はい、じゃ、今日も聞いていただいて、ありがとうございました。

我们来看看道德经的第二章。

天下皆知美之为美，斯恶已；皆知善之为善，斯不善矣。有无相生，难易相成，长短相形，高下相盈，音声相和，前后相随。是以圣人处无为之事，行不言之教。万物作，焉而弗辞，生而弗有，为而弗恃，功成而弗居。夫唯弗居，是以不去。

根据老子的思想，万物都是相对的。比如美和丑，善和恶，长和短，有和无。他们互相对立，也互相依赖。If the beauty is everywhere, no one will see it as beautiful anymore. So we shouldn’t push too hard on the things we cannot control. For example, if all the girls do the plastic surgery to become a standard beauty, there would be no one considered beautiful, because everyone is the same. Diversity is beautiful. 所以，老子说，我们要随万物生长而不去限制和控制，这样的无为，也就是不去做一些事，符合道。放下了强烈的我执，有时候选择不去做一些事，比去做还要困难。但是很多情况下，无为，不去做，才是智慧。

Are you ready to get that idiom monkey off your back and learn 7 more idiomatic expressions to help you improve your IELTS band score?

The idioms in this podcast are quite useful. They should add another string to your bow. In our IELTS speaking exam we should also learn how to paraphrase. Learning how to paraphrase adds a really important string to your bow, as well. In order to gain a band score 6, it’s important to attempt to paraphrase as well as use connectives. Using connectives, like therefore, however, and to be honest, can add another string to your bow.

When we know how to use idioms, we can improve our IELTS band score, because it’s important to use some less common idiomatic vocabulary in your IELTS exam. Idioms are very common and used in everyday daily life. As a rule of thumb, they help the examiner to know if you have spent time studying common idiomatic phrases.

So, keep your chin up. And keep studying. Because idioms are easy to learn. You just have to take the time to learn them, and practice using them. Don’t let learning idioms worry you, because they really are fun. They won’t get you into hot water. Learning idioms cannot get you into trouble. On the contrary, they will show the IELTS examiner that you are dilligent, studious, and hard working. Nobody’s going to hit the roof just because you’ve learned a few idioms. Of course not! No one is going to be angry with you for studying idioms! They are a vital part of your English language skills. Native English speakers use idioms day in, day out.
