안녕하세요! 2023년 7월 26일 수요일 한국어강사 세이디예요. 찾아온 무더위로 지치는 계절 여름! 더위를 가시게 해 여름 하면 떠오르는 음식 중 하나가 바로 빙수인데요. 요즘에는 여러 종류의 빙수가 있지만, 대표적이고 전통적인 빙수는 역시 팥빙수지요. 팥빙수는 한국의 여름 디저트로, 얼음과 달콤한 팥 앙금, 과일, 떡 등을 함께 먹는 음식이에요. 얼음을 다져서 그 위에 다양한 재료를 올려서 먹는데, 시원하고 달콤한 맛이 일품이에요. 한국에서는 팥빙수를 전문으로 판매하는 가게나 카페 혹은 빵 집에서도 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있어요. 가수 윤종신의 노래 “팥빙수”도 많은 사람들의 인기를 받았죠. 이 노래를 들으면 한국인들의 팥빙수에 대한 남다른 애정을 느끼실 수 있어요. 그럼 한번 들어보실까요~

With the arrival of scorching summer, the exhausting season is coming! One of the foods that comes to mind when you think of summer that makes you feel hot is shaved ice. Nowadays, there are many types of shaved ice, but the representative and traditional one is definitely patbingsu. Patbingsu is a Korean summer dessert that is a food made by eating ice and sweet red bean paste, fruits, rice cakes, etc. together. Crushed ice is put on top of various ingredients, and the cool and sweet taste is irresistible. You can easily find stores, cafes, and bakeries that specialize in selling patbingsu. On a Monday morning or after a night out with friends, staying focused in class can feel impossible. You yawn, your eyes feel tired and the desk starts to look increasingly attractive as a temporary bed of sorts. It’s time to reach out for some of your brain’s favourite attention and memory boosters and wake up again.

So before next Monday’s class – whether back home or in an EF school somewhere on the other side of the world – whip up a blueberry shake, drink a cup of coffee, eat some nuts or go nuts and eat a baked potato for lunch. Your brain and your teacher will thank you, trust us.

1. A strong cup of coffee

Every student knows that the local barista that makes that daily morning cup is their best friend. Coffee is really good for waking you up and keeping you focused for a short amount of time, but drink too much and you’ll feel jittery and ill.

2. A fruit shake

Preferably with super healthy blueberries and with natural sugars in the form of glucose, a fruit shake can provide a short-term memory boost in addition to vitamins and minerals that your whole body needs. Overdo it and you’re likely to feel tired soon after.

3. A handful of dark chocolate pieces and nuts

They’re as brain-boosting as anything (dark chocolate even has some caffeine) and they’re anti-ageing too.

4. Fish and baked potatoes for lunch

We know, we know – they’re not the most attractive items on the menu, but your brain loves both. Salmon and other fatty fish have loads of Omega-3 fats that boost memory and slow your brain’s decline as you age, while potatoes provide steady energy that your brain really needs (it takes up 20% of your body’s energy!)

5. Pumpkin seeds
They’re full of zinc, iron and minerals that help transport oxygen to the brain, and nerve cells to communicate and boost your brain power. A great cheap and healthy snack.
