The first English book that really facsinated me was a collection of science-fiction novels. It was extremely hard to read but I enjoyed it very much. Ever since, fiction books are my preference. I love being involved into the plot rather than read some dry facts. However, I do enjoy reading non-fiction books in my native language, for self-improvement for instance.

I prefer non-fiction books for study and fiction books for fun.
