The Lord's Prayer in Aramaic. ( ܐܪܡܝܐ)
What language did Jesus speak? Hebrew or Aramaic?
Hebrew has always been the Holy language "Leshon Ha Kodesh" used since the time of creation.God created the universe by speaking. Genesis 1:3 " And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." Hebrew is the DNA of the universe. If you study "Gematria" you will learn the numerical value of the letters and the spiritual message behind them.
During the time of Jesus the Romans ruled Israel and renamed it Palestine after the Israelite's worst enemy the Philistines who came from the Aegean Sea near Greece. Biblical scholars often trace the word to the Semitic root p-l-š (Hebrew: פלש) which means "to divide."
Hebrew was used in the temples for reading and praying but for daily life people spoke Aramaic. Many Jews spoke Aramaic because the Babylonians conquered Israel and took the Jews as captives for 70 years in Babylon modern day Iraq.
Aramaic (Ashooraya/Aramaeet) is from the same Semitic language family like Arabic and Hebrew. There is two dialects of Aramaic, Eastern Aramaic sometimes called Syriac and Western Aramaic also referred to as Palestinian dialect but most likely Jesus spoke a Western Jewish dialect of Aramaic. * I recorded the Lord's Prayer in Jewish Aramaic from Galilee*
Jesus/ Yeshua (Eesho) is in Aramaic, the name Joshua in Hebrew is Yehoshua; it means "God is Salvation". Joshua lead the Israelites into Canaan after 40 years in the desert since they got out of Egypt.
The Lord's Prayer has been translated to many languages, but I wish to learn it in Arabic. So I would like to get help from Christians of the Arab world. If you are from Syria or Iraq and you know Aramaic, please teach me. And if you are Egyptian and you know Coptic, please show me how to say the Lord's Prayer in Coptic.
I'm interested in learning more about the early Christian communities of the Middle East and Africa. I believe that they are a world heritage that should have more recognition and respect. They may be a small minority but they are part of a big history.
I have faith that when Jesus returns there will finally be peace in the Middle East and in the rest of the world. No leaders or government can solve the tough situation in the region, only the Messiah is worthy of saving the world. May God be with you all "Alaha minokhoon" Allah m3akum!
"Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance." Isaiah 19:25
