Isn't this sentence awkward and strange because of "say to anybody"?

Grammatically, the sentence is incorrect. The correct way to say it is "Don't tell anyone that we are going to buy a car."

Strange or awkward? Absolutely not. The sentence just needed a minor adjustment :)
