Akiyo

Akiyo sensei is extremely patient and encouraging. I had zero experience in Japanese and I feel confident and encouraged when I take lessons with her. We follow a text book called genki and I think the lessons are organized. I think I’m making slow but steady progress. We have had 5 lessons already and I am looking forward to many more :)

Thank you so much for the trial lesson. From first minutes of the lesson I could feel that I am heard and understood well. Akiyo san is a very bright teacher with vast experience in different fields, so she can correct my Japanese, and also help learning about Japanese work culture!

I’ve had three lessons with Akihiyo 先生, and every time, I leave feeling encouraged and motivated. She has a warm and patient teaching style that makes learning Japanese enjoyable. After hearing that my goal is to read manga, she adjusted the lesson to help me read a Japanese newspaper, ensuring I had both a challenge and something relevant to my goals. She also recommended working through the GENKI workbook, offering to go over grammar points and incorporate them into conversation practice. I was feeling a little discouraged before this lesson because I had a really rough session with another tutor a week ago. It left me questioning whether I should take a break from lessons altogether. But Akihiyo Sensei completely changed that. She made me feel capable again—never once making me feel dumb or overwhelmed. Her patience and kindness stood out, and by the end of the lesson, I felt excited to keep learning. You can tell she is genuine and kind.

Akiyo-先生 is a wonderful instructor of 日本語! She encourages her students when they learn proper grammar and vocabulary, and she is very quick to correct you when you make even a slight mistake. My 日本語 has improved with every lesson so far, and I will continue to book appointments with Akiyo-先生.

あきよ先生 is a great teacher! She tries to incorporate words frequently used in everyday conversation that have been very helpful. Every lesson I have been learning a lot of new words and phrases. She is patient and allows you to express your thoughts to speak and makes the sessions comfortable while asking questions throughout. She will write down the words/phrases you didn’t know and you can review them after your session, and she is great at responding to questions in a timely manner! For English speakers, her English is also impressive and she can explain and translate things to make it easier to understand. I highly recommend anyone who is studying Japanese to take lessons from her!

Akiyo 先生 was cheerful and warm as always; she made learning interesting and fun. I still struggle to form sentences and speak in Japanese but she's very encouraging. I can't wait for the next lesson. Highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning Japanese.
