Ahoj! My name is Katka and I'm a native Czech speaker, professional teacher, and a polyglot. I'm here to make you fall in love with the Czech language and culture. Come join me and learn the language of people who: ➡️above all love ice-hockey, picking up mushrooms and their "pohoda": the Czech version of hygge and lagom; ➡️ are the heaviest consumers of beer in the world and never turn you down if you wanna go for "one" (or a few); ➡️take pride of their rich history, tennis players, and architecture. Did you know that there are over two thousand castles and chateaus in the Czech Republic, which is more than in any other country in Europe? ➡️are the least religious nations in the world?

Kateřina is very skilled, and great to work with. She's patient, and has a positive attitude. She helped me say more in Czech than I ever thought I could. And whenever I was really floundering, she was flexible and suggested I say it in English. I'm learning a lot already. I recommend her very highly.

Děkuji Kateřina for the materials and today's lesson! I really liked learning the genitive case and new prepositions and getting to talk about places around town. Looking forward to our next lesson :)

I really enjoyed my lesson with Katerina. She is engaging, patient and a very warm person, who put me at my ease. She pointed out and corrected mistakes in a supportive way and encouraged me to do most of the talking! Katerina has a very professional approach and I would recommend her highly as a teacher.

(2/2)In the first lesson,I explained my goal—preparing for a work trip—expected the teacher to structure the lessons in a way that would help me achieve that. However, lessons were not connected. I assumed it was because she was still getting to know me.I was surprised when, in the 6th lesson, she asked what to do next, as she didn’t know what to prepare or what I needed. The next lesson I brought this up and she told me that by buying the "Learn Czech" package, I hadn't paid for a structured plan but only for telling her what to do in each lesson. If I wanted to follow a plan, I would need to buy her course on an external platform. When the next day, I sent her a detailed (to avoid any misunderstandings)suggestion for the upcoming lesson, as we had agreed, she took it as an attack on lessons. To make things worse, she caused issues with canceling the package, requiring Italki to resolve the refund.I regret wasting my time—if she'd been clear from the start, I wouldn’t have worked with her.

(1/2) Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this teacher, and I'm surprised by the high number of positive reviews. I had 7 lessons with Katka. Each session started with 10 minutes of small talk before moving on to the main topic. The core of the lessons focused on checking knowledge that Katka had never actually taught me. She expected me to know new concepts, which was impossible. Usually, she would show me pictures and ask me to name them. Even in the first lesson, despite telling her that my Czech was very basic (A1-A2), she expected me to discuss newly introduced medical terms (I’m a medic), which was an unrealistic expectation. This made me uncomfortable, and I felt guilty for not knowing the answers, even though it wasn't my fault. The feeling of guilt was intensified by the fact that Katka often seemed disappointed or unhappy that I didn't know the terms. Unfortunately, nothing changed in the following lessons, and they all followed a similar pattern.
