Evyatar

Ma situation avant de commencer les cours avec Evyatar : je lisais mes prières dans le siddour laborieusement -, certaines je comprenais avec la traduction et d’autres il restait des parts d’ombre. Après avoir commencé les cours : les mots prennent vie sous mes yeux, je lis avec une kavannah renforcée, chaque mot résonne en moi avec sa signification et ma lecture devient fluide. J’ai du mal à exprimer la valeur que cela a. Même des mots que je comprenais avant, je les comprends mieux maintenant. C’est comme connaître un ami et avoir déjà mangé plusieurs shabbats dans sa famille (mot dont on connaît le shoresh, l’étymologie, la famille de mots associés ) et connaître quelqu’un seulement de vue (mot dont on connaît à peu près le sens d’après la traduction ). Et on peut le faire en français car Evyatar parle couramment français. Et on passe un moment sympa, léger. C’est tout sauf prise de tête et on ressort avec toutes ces connaissances

I feel so satisfied after my lessons with Evy. It is clear that he has a tremendous passion for Hebrew and together we can share in our fascination for many things. Actually today, the key word of the day was fascination. Evy is really a scholar when it comes to exploring the roots of Hebrew words. As a kid, I couldn't care less, but as I gain more and more knowledge of various languages, I have become more fascinated by the etymology of words, as this discovery can tell us so much about ourselves. Learning with Evy reminds me of my time in Ulpan 50 years ago, learning with my instructor who was a polyglot from Hungary, a man I admired very much, a man who had many answers to deep questions. I think anyone who studies with Evy will be embarking on a long path of discovery. Evy, thanks so much for the time we spent today.

Great first class! Evyatar is really great at explaining things simply, and it made a whole lot of sense to me! We looked at the vowels, and it was great trying to look for patterns and rules for them. Evyatar asks questions for you to be observant and really focus on what learning at the moment. Very fun. I'm looking forward to our next class!

Evyatar is an amazing Hebrew teacher. He loves Hebrew a lot, and his excitement rubs off on me. With him, learning Hebrew feels like an adventure and not hard work. He's very good at teaching and makes sure that I understand everything. Evyatar is a very friendly person and makes me feel comfortable during class. Learning Hebrew with him is fun and easy!

For those who are interested in reading Biblical Hebrew or Hebrew from the siddur, I highly recommend taking lessons with Evyatar. After a lesson with him, the words of my siddur are alive,refreshed. I was already praying with kavanah. But now it a whole other level. I know the words and their « family » (shoresh, words form the same family, etymology). It is the same difference as knowing someone by view and knowing a friend and their family. It is hard to express the value of these lessons, especially if you are intellectually or spiritually motivated by these texts. And the cherry on top is that those lessons are fun, light, stimulating. You laugh and learn at the same time, without feeling the pain of learning those delicate, sometimes complicated notions

I greatly enjoy my lessons with Evyatar, he is so patient and knows how to help a student starting from scratch get to the Hebrew language in a very rewarding way 🌟
