¿QUÉ ES UN PREJUICIO?, ¿Y UN ESTEREOTIPO?

Un prejuicio es…
Un juicio u opinión, generalmente negativo, que se forma sin motivo y sin el conocimiento necesario. Es el pensamiento, emociones y actitud, por lo general negativas, que una persona o un individuo tienen ante otra persona o grupo de personas a los que considera ajenos a su grupo de referencia, entendido el grupo como una región, nación, religión, cultura, clase social, orientación , profesión, etc.

Un estereotipo es…
Una imagen mental muy simplificada, con pocos detalles, acerca de un grupo de gente que comparte ciertas cualidades características. Puede ser tanto positivo como negativo, aunque normalmente es negativo. Suele ser un conjunto de creencias compartidas socialmente sobre las características de una persona que suelen exagerar un determinado rasgo que se cree que tiene una determinado grupo. 

DIFERENCIAS PREJUICIO‑ESTEREOTIPO
Los estereotipos son ideas semejantes a los prejuicios.  
Los estereotipos se diferencian de los prejuicios en estos dos aspectos: se trata de un conjunto de ideas y se suelen atribuir a grupos de personas. 
El estereotipo es una imagen mental muy simplificada. Es colectivo. No se puede estereotipar a una persona, ya que se trata de una imagen compartida por una colectividad. Es la concreción del prejuicio.

Today's one-minute challenge is to think of people or a person that you feel grateful for.

Who is this person?

How did you get acquainted with this person?

What did they help you with?

And what are the consequences of their help? How did your life change as a result?

Take some time. You can listen to the recording several times to answer the questions. Listen to it. Reading and listening are two modalities (languages of the mind, if you will). Use them both to stimulate your mind differently!
