Surprisingly, the penalty was justified: the smoke alarm is a disposable one that must be replaced once triggered, and the effort to climb up and replace it justifies the cost. I found myself wondering why he has to be a 70 years old troublemaker.

warning and a 500 buck (I think it’s confusing when people use “bucks”, it makes you think the fine is much higher than it is. Just use yuan/rmb/ kuai) penalty. Surprisingly, the fine was justified: the
smoke alarm is a disposable one that must be replaced once triggered, and the
effort to climb up and replace it justifies the cost. I found myself wondering
why he has to be a 70-year-old troublemaker.
