As a preposition, are "toward" and "towards" alternative words in any cases ? Does the "~s" in the end matter? My instance {They are only too generous towards me.}

Hello, Toward means 'in the direction of'. Toward and towards are completely interchangeable, so you can use either one whenever you want. I hope this answers your question. According to Practical English Usage, towards is more common in British English, toward in the US. They both mean the same.
