How to learn German by myself Hello everyone, I was wondering if there any way to learn German by myself without getting a tutor. I just know the German alphabet and pronouns. I'm waiting for your advice. Thanks beforehand.

I know it's not the right answer but if I needed a German book I'd try to google it. I'm sure there is plenty of stuff out there. It takes a bit of time to find and pick something good. The important is it should have audio.

By the way, you may want to check if you can find a group course where you live. It should be much cheaper than hiring a private tutor.

You definitely can. The best would be to get a good self study book, or maybe a course-book with audio and just follow it. If that's not an option, search for material on the web. DW may have something decent. Or you may want to try LingQ. Actually there is a lot of stuff online, but it's better when it's all nicely organized, therefore a book may be better.

It depends on your native language. If you compare it to English, you will find a lot of similarities, since they both have the same mother language. If you want to learn it, based on a language that is not Germanic, you will have a bit more trouble understanding it. Anything is possible, though! =)

Wouldn’t recommend it. Strange you’d think it were possible. Not unless you were 3 years old and living in Germany. You're certainly free to give it a try if you like, and if you do, viel Glück.
