Life With Louie. Life with Louie was and I think it still is one of the most lovable cartoons in my country. It is so funny, realistic, mature and perfect for all ages. Life with Louie presents the life a young boy of eight years old, with many brothers and sisters (I guess there are ten of them) and two very different parents. His mom is very kind and simple, while his father is the kind of too-talkative person, who always remembers the times of his youth, when he fought in World War II. My father enjoyed this cartoon and even my mother did, who usually loathes cartoons (unless it's 'Tom and Jerry', 'Tinkerbell' and a few more). Thus, it's obvious I've watched every single episode for, at least, 10 times in about 5 years (taking some breaks from it, of course). This way I learned many of the lines they said. Although the cartoon is originally American, I only know what they say in Romanian (because I mostly watched it dubbed), so I'll try to translate here some of their memorable words. Andy (Louie's father) : When we were children, we didn't give gifts to each other . We were poor. We gave us headaches. Louie: But, dad! I've still got the one from the last year. Andy: Are you afraid of a little injection? It's not a big deal! In the war, I was shot thirteen times. Thirteen times in the scruff! When I was drinking water, I was looking like a sprinkler. And you are afraid of a little sting? Louie: Thank you, dad! I feel better now. Andy: How much does this fir without branches cost? The seller: It's a fir of 35 dollars. Andy: What? Are you going to decorate it for us? I give you 3 dollars! Louie: Oh, God! He's not our father! Louie: I realised that in my eight years of life I spent nine years and a half listening to my dad. Andy: You remember your grandmother, don't you? She's a sweetie. If you don't count her scaly skin, her yellow teeth and his breath who could kill even a dinosaur. That could explain their evanescence, if you think of it. The teacher: And this is your whole homework. Louie: Do we have to finish it until the end of the year? The teacher: Until tomorrow, Anderson. At four, in the morning... when the whole family was preparing to leave with the car. Louie: Thanks for letting us sleep, dad. Andy: What? Is it too early for you? You spoiled kids! In the war, at this hours, we were having the lunch.

Hardly any mistakes, bravo. You are getting really good.

When I first started learning Romanian, it was exactly one year ago to this day. One of the first things I tried to do to help learn faster was watch Viata cu louie. I thought maybe if I memorize episodes in English, I would be able to know how to say those phrases in Romanian right? Nope! But it was fun trying, even though it was all jibberish to me.

The episode I tried to do that with was when Louie starts working at the golf course to get money for a bike horn (claxon?! Te-ai nascut cu o gura mare! foloeste-o!). A year ago it was all jibberish, but now at least i can hear and know most of the words they say, even if my brain does not process them quick enough to keep up with the pace of the conversation. Know what I mean?
