What does it mean? I think, that the main idea of this proverb is that we can visit a lot of different places, and even love them, but home is the best place for us anyway.
Inspite of the fact that I really like travelling, I always miss home during trips. My home is a little world where I can make my own rules and live according them. Problems seem slighter smaller, troubles disappear, all difficult things became easier at the home. It is the unique function of its This only happens at home and No one from all places can not to give the same affect it's the same for everyone everywhere.
Everybody has a home. This is the most private place for a person. People need safety and we feel safe in our homes. We can relax and forget about everything in this wonderful place. It is really important for everybody. I think that this is the main reason to we can say that "East or West - home is best".

I used to agree, but then I discovered that 'home' had became only 'where I live' and every time I get home, I try to plan my next trip.

There are people who do not have a place to call home, and 'home' does not necessarily mean 'safe'.
