It means to be madly jealous of one's possessions that you feel complled to earn the same things at any cost. It has a disapproving sense into it, right? Look at the following example;
I am a footballer who is an ardent fan of Chris Ronaldo. I am trying to emulate his free-kick style.
These sentences give an implication that Ronaldo is my role model and I would like to imitate his style so that I will be admired too. هم چشمی in our language is sometimes mistranslated as competitiveness, but that is an erroneous connotation given that competitiveness is approving and has a positive meaning into it while همچشمی convey the feeling of hatred, jealousy and ....
