'grab onto' , 'cling to', or 'hold onto'? are they the same?

"To grab onto" is to move your hand and start to hold onto something. "To hold onto" is to hold something in your hand or--metaphorically--to hold something in your mind or heart. "To cling to" is to hold on very tightly (and perhaps desperately). "He grabbed her arm and turned her around." "She held onto the bicycle handlebars." "He is in the hospital and clinging to life."
