acceptable/reasonable for me? or to me? Hi guys, This may sound like a play of words but I'm confused as to when to use 'for me', when to use 'to me'. Could you tell me which one is proper and goes well with 'acceptable' and 'reasonable'? Here are sentences; This agreement is acceptable (for me/ to me.) Your proposal is reasonable (for us / to us.)

Instinctively, I would say "acceptable to me" and "reasonable to me" (but "for" would be OK too in both cases). With "acceptable", "to be" is the most common verb. However, with "reasonable", verbs which indicate impression are often more natural e.g. The agreement seems / looks reasonable to me.

"For me" and " for us" because the sentence ends at that point. If the sentence were longer with more explanation, for example, " The agreement is acceptable to me because I am happy with the new pay raise," then "to me" is best. Hope this helps!

I'd agree with Kimberly. I probably wouldn't use 'for me' and 'for us', though. I might say 'The meal was reasonable for the price.' meaning 'reasonable quality' or 'The agreement was acceptable for most of the people at the negotiation.'
