Help me with this confusing question change these sentences into similar one using the word given and do not change the word 1. From the educational point of view, his childhood years had been well spent. (TERMS) 2. He's very good at tennis and he's a very good footballer. (ADDICTION) ((note: addiction? he just good at it. But it doesn't mean that he's an addict! *confused*)) 3. They were very keen to hear the president's speech. (EARS) ((note: great! now is ears. point their ears at? *trigger*)) 4. This time change the sentence to a similar one with the given beginning. It was more an argument than a discussion. --> It was not so...... In the upcoming advanced exam for talent students. There will be more, I assume (duh! there will, son.) so how can I find more of this and also kinds of phrasal verb to enrich my knowledge?? please help

1. In terms of his education, his childhood years had been well spent. 2. He has an addiction to both tennis and football. (the instructions say not the change the word but this is more natural: "He is addicted to both tennis and football.") 3. They were all ears to (hear) the president's speech. 4. [got cut off so unclear]

To complete it: 2. As you noted, "addiction" is a ridiculous word to use to rewrite the sentence. My guess is that there was a transcription error which turned "addition" to "addiction". So the question probably had this conversion in mind: He's very good at tennis and he's a very good footballer. => He's very good at tennis, and in addition he's a very good footballer. 4. It was more an argument than a discussion. => It was not so much a discussion as an argument. As for your last question, obviously there is no shortcut. You'll just have to continually expose yourself to examples of good writing (and cut the garbage writing you see on the internet). Simply put, if you see and practice millions of good examples, you'll be fluent; if you study just 50,000, you remain somewhere around the intermediate level, so to speak.
