Confused by a line of a sitcom. I'm watching a old sitcom called The Golden Girls. There's a line I can't understand. Mr.Allen:Sorry you didn't have an opportunity to experience our museum. I'd love for you to see my most prized acquisition. A magnificent pair of Gauguins. Sophia:What are you, a pervert? I was married 45 years. I never even saw my husband's Gauguins. I guess that Sophia mistakes “ Gauguin” for something else, but I don't know what she thought.

It's not a great or funny joke (Not at all funny if you ask me). Bit Gaugin is the painter, so the initial reference means a pair of paintings. Gaugins sounds a bit like 'gonads' so they are making a testicles joke.

It doesn't sound the same, but because Gaughins is pronounced like "go-gans" it sounds a little like a pair of "gonads".
