Does the phrase "dish out" sounds negative? Hi there, Could someone please tell me if the following sentence sounds negative? Sentence: She loves to dish out advice. I wonder if the sentence implies that she is being annoying by dishing out too much advice. Or does it actually imply that she is a very nice person and likes to give advice to people? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nanako

You are right that it has negative connotations. The suggestion is that she gives out too much advice.

To dish out advice, could also imply the advice is not specific to the situation, person or problem. If you dish out food, you serve it from a big dish, rather than preparing it specifically for the plate.

Su.Ki. is absolutely right. It also implies that she thinks she is wiser/cleverer than other people, who all need her advice.
