Hello Salma, It is the word class in English that expresses the characteristic of something or someone. It describes something or someone by giving a representation of it in the form of a word usually presenting shape, size, time ,quality, quantity etc. It is an answer of how is something/someone. Examples: -The house is big. (How is the house?) The cat is small .( How is the cat?) 'big' and 'small' describe size. -The boy is skinny . (describes shape). How is the boy? He is skinny. -The chinese temples are ancient. ( indicates time) -The water is cold (touch). The following is a list of adjectives related to size, touch , shape and time : http://www.zozanga.com/grammar/adjectives/listofadjectives.htm The adjective is located either: - after the verb (usually verb to be) as in previous examples. The house is big. The boy is skinny. - or before the described noun. The big house is located near the lake. The skinny boy doesn't eat much. Adjectives are represented as antonymous ( word with opposite meanings). Big versus small Tall versus short good versus bad etc

Moreover adjectives as Descriptives describing words have the so called " comparatives" and "superlatives": - Comparatives : is the form of the adjective used to compare two things. It is formed usually by adding ER to the adjective. Example: The elephant is bigger than the dog ( silly example sorry ;)) Here the elephant is compared in size with the dog. It has more (bigger) of the quality than the dog. -Superlatives:The Superlative is the form of an adjective that shows which thing has that quality above or below the level of all the others. It is formed by adding "the" before the adjective and attaching "est" to it . the (adjective) est the highest , the biggest , the smallest etc... Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. The following is a list of adjective and their comparatives and superlatives: http://rickwalton.com/curricul/descript.htm Note that there are regular and irregular adjectives. The comparative and superlative are formed as mentioned before in the case of regular adjectives ( by adding "er" and "the ....est" . While in case of irregular adjectives they are formed in different irregular manners: Example: good better best It is not as the regular form ( good , gooder , the goodest). Check the list of most irregular adjectives: http://www.lousywriter.com/adjectives_irregular.php I hope you understand now adjectives and know how to apply them :)
