Written Exercise 76 - Chinese Longtaitou Festival (龙抬头) It is the second day of
the second month of the Chinese Lunar calendar, which is called the traditional
Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon-Head-Raising Festival. Although people
don’t follow all of the traditional ways to celebrate it nowadays, there are
some of them we still do, such as getting a haircut, which is the most famous
tradition of all. There are still some families who follow more traditional ways
by making some special food and offering sacrifices to God. People pray for
their family or whatever they want. Last night, we made a sweet cake for it. It was
steamed. Picture 1 is the mixture on a plate which is about 15cm across. Picture
2 is a finished cake, you can see that it has risen. Picture 3 is the cross
section of the cake. We enjoyed the cake after finishing the rite. It was tasty.
Happy Longtaitou Festival!
