Hello! Is it me you're looking for? My name is Karen, a language nerd from Jakarta (Indonesia) who is currently based in Italy! Even though my educational background is in communication/graphic design, I am passionate about languages and have been learning, teaching & tutoring multiple different languages ever since I was a teenager. Aside from learning new languages, my hobbies include drawing, reading trashy thriller/true crime books, videomaking, cooking, trying to train my stubborn rescue dog & traveling. I have lived in 6 countries (Indonesia, Canada, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain (IC) & Portugal) and speak 5 languages (ID/EN/IT/ES/PT) with varying degrees of fluency.

**On Maternity Leave** ENGLISH: I have been tutoring/teaching English ever since I was in High School (from 2009), and have had the chance to work with very young learners (EFL), High School students (ELA & ESL), University students (EAP & EFL), as well as adults (EAP, EOP & EFL). I have helped learners who are starting from 0 as well as those who are a bit more advanced already. *** INDONESIAN: I have taught some non-Indonesians Bahasa Indonesia from 0 throughout the years, using EN/IT/PT as the language of instruction. I have also tutored the children of Indonesian diasporas.

I have always preferred the humanistic approach when teaching & learning languages. I would like to get to know you both as a language learner & person in order to better help you with your language learning journey. I believe that by catering to the learners' needs, interests and preferred learning methods, we can achieve better results together. So based on our 1st meeting, we will come up with a lesson plan together! I also love to share contents in your target language (based on your own interest, of course) in order to help you feed the algorithm of your social media. This way you'll be able to learn your target language while enjoying the contents you like. It's a win-win situation!

I've been learning Indonesian with Karen for four months. Karen taught me a very important lesson: To easily learn a language you have to use your intuition! She is a great teacher and her methods are refreshing and stimulating. Since she can speak many languages so fluently, she has a deep understanding of how languages work. That I consider to be a tremendous asset. The classes are very interactive and she always motivates me. She explains how and why things work. She always tries to give examples so you can find the answers by yourself. For me it is really interesting and motivating that I can look back and see that I really improved. Now I can understand so many things and I can also express myself. Makasih!
