I’m a TEFL-certified English language instructor, having completed my certification at the University of Toronto in 2018. I’m also a professional proofreader and an experienced writing coach. My first love is literature, and I’m especially interested in contemporary Canadian and American poetry, and avant-garde and experimental writing. My expertise is in supporting new immigrants to Canada in developing their English communication skills. My lessons include coaching on proposals and email communications, presentations and job interviews.
I can also assist with university applications, essays and theses. I’m an experienced proofreader and can give you thoughtful feedback on projects of any length. Contact me through italki with any questions about your specific requirements.
IELTS is required for university admissions and IELTS or CELPIP is required for permanent residence applications. I can support your exam preparation and goals.

I like to keep my teaching method practical. Everything is based on the idea that teaching is a relationship, based on mutual respect.
Your trial lesson, or first lesson, will be a conversation about your current goals and abilities.
For students who are in customized assignments or writing classes, and for those preparing for exams, I will propose a time frame in which we can achieve your goals. While we may discuss this time frame in the first lesson, a more concrete plan will be proposed and agreed upon in the next lesson.
For conversation students, we’ll introduce ourselves and propose potential topics of conversation.

I've learned a new phrase that when the teacher asks 'How did you find this homework?', it might be asking about the difficulty or your experience with it. I really want to thank Ms. Stevenson for being so patient, listening carefully to me, correcting my mistakes, and encouraging me to share my own ideas. She is truly a wonderful teacher!

I'm very grateful for the tutor's patience. I can only speak very few words and phrases currently, but the tutor has always been striving to understand me and guide me.
