Hi! I'm Ben from the south of England in the UK. I'm a certified IELTS examiner and a qualified English language teacher. I've been tutoring on Italki since 2017! I became a certified IELTS speaking examiner in 2023, while teaching and examining for the British Council in Seoul for two years. I also have additional classroom teaching experience in public schools and language schools in both the UK and South Korea - helping children, teenagers and adults with their English. I also hold a bachelors degree and masters degree in creative writing.我的教學經歷
My teaching style is very friendly and relaxed. I want to know about your journey and experiences with learning English and help you in a way that works for you. I believe the best way to achieve this is to listen, be patient, and create a comfortable environment. My specialism is helping students prepare for the IELTS exam. I can go through the structure of the test with you, and we can practice example questions together. I can help inform you of the level you are currently at, and we can work on improving your English ready for the test.
I'm also happy to tailor our lessons so that they work for you. That could mean more general English lessons (I have my own materials, materials from the British Council, business English etc). Perhaps you have some writing that needs proofreading, or just informal conversation practice and highlighting common errors and mistakes. Whatever you need, I am happy to help :)我的教材

2023 - 2025
English Language TeacherAs part of my role at the British Council, I prepared a range of phonics lessons for early years classes (aged 4-6). I planned and taught Primary and Secondary plus lessons (aged 7-17) according to the British Council commitments, with emphasis on inspiring creativity through real-world contexts. I delivered ‘Returnee’ lessons for students who were born or spent considerable time abroad, and helped their English flourish through topics on history, geography, science and culture.

IELTS Speaking ExaminerI examine adult candidates for the IELTS speaking test for various purposes such as student and work visas abroad, maintaining a friendly but professional rapport at all times. I follow exact procedure throughout the test to ensure international standardisation. I must demonstrate an ability to identify grade rubrics perfectly, to ensure an accurate English level is given regarding fluency, lexical resource, grammar and pronunciation.
2021 - 2022
Primary School TeacherI planned and taught individual lessons based on medium-term plan for year 6 (aged 10-11). I implemented appropriate and inclusive teaching strategies as learning support for EAL pupils (students who speak English as an additional language). I found ways to address and overcome the challenges of a mixed-ability classroom by consistently reviewing and improving lessons based on pupil progress.
2018 - 2020
Native English TeacherI taught students (aged 8-14 years old) alongside my experienced Korean co-teacher, gaining valuable insights and teaching pedagogy from their expertise. I collaborated with my co-teacher in order to prepare all class materials according to the Korean primary curriculum. I empathised with students regarding learning a new language and culture, and used this to work around language barriers and misunderstandings and to create a relaxed, open classroom atmosphere in which students felt comfortable

碩士 - PGCE in EAL with QTSPost-graduate Certificate in Education specialising in students who have English as an Additional Language (not their first language)
This qualification also gave me Qualified Teacher Status, which is a requirement to teach in mainstream schools in the United Kingdom.
