I have been teaching Latin for over 25 years, both in top-ranked secondary schools and online. I have a master’s degree in Latin and have written two widely-used Latin textbooks published by Yale University Press. I have an outstanding command of the Latin language, a keen understanding of Latin grammar and syntax, and a deep and meaningful knowledge of Hellenistic, Roman, and late-antique history. But more importantly during my 20 years of teaching I have developed an keen ability to *teach* the language. Rather than just being someone who happens to know a little Latin, I know both WHAT THE STUDENT NEEDS TO DO as well as WHAT THE TEACHER NEEDS TO DO in order to facilitate learning the language. I am happy to use any Latin textbook that you prefer. Otherwise, I normally recommend Hans Ørberg’s Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata, since it is peerless in its pacing, the amount of review that it provides, and the level of mastery it expects in the exercises.
I am also very good at teaching children. My lessons for young people are very much language focused … but we have *a lot* of fun, and young students both enjoy their and are able to learn Latin to a very high level.
I have had numerous success stories in both my in-person and online teaching. Here in italki I have taken students from zero to reading Latin literature (e.g., Caesar, & Vergil) with facility.證書

Brian Beyer is a wonderful teacher. My daughter started taking lessons about once a week in 2020. She was able to start 11th grade Latin as a 9th grader. Even with being in Latin in school, she has wanted to continue her lessons with Mr. Beyer as well, working it in at 7am, which speaks volumes as a teenager! We appreciate his thoughtful and engaging teaching.
