I work with just a few students with whom I build a long-term relationship.
I'm a CELTA-qualified English teacher from the UK with a BA (Hons) degree in English and a Master's in Creative Writing. I used to work as a financial editor in leading stockbrokers in Hong Kong and London. Now I'm a full-time writer and English teacher, helping people with their language skills.

Before your first lesson, I'll send you an evaluation test to identify your level and any problem areas. We'll look at your results together and I'll show you how I can help improve your communication skills, functional language, grammar - and your confidence!

I often use an interactive online learning platform called Off2class which has over 700 lessons. I'll structure a personalised learning plan to meet your needs and interests. I'll give feedback during the lesson, a copy of the key slides, and a homework task to consolidate your learning.
Lesson topics range from books and theatre to the environment and politics.
I use video lessons from Fluentize, Linguahouse and ESL Brains to help with your listening comprehension, and news articles from Engoo and other sources to stimulate discussions.
PLEASE NOTE: I prefer to use Zoom or Skype for lessons. I'm sorry, I don't use the italki classroom.我的教材

TKT YL - Cambridge Assessment English - 2018I passed the TKT for Young Learners and Children at the highest grade (Band 4) and this has helped me with my online K12 teaching.

CELTA - Cambridge Assessment English - 2018I achieved an A pass in the CELTA. It was a four-week intensive course with practical assessed classroom teaching to actual students of English as a Foreign Language. It qualifies me to teach EFL/ESL to adults throughout the world.

學士學位 - EnglishI studied English and Related Literature at one of the best universities in the country, looking at English and American Literature, and also Anglo-Saxon writings.
2022 - 2024
碩士 - Creative WritingI studied part-time for my Master's Degree while teaching and gained a Distinction. I also won the Academic Prize for Best Overall Performance in my year.

2018 - 2021
English TeacherMost recently, I have taught English to adults from all over the world. This included grammar, reading comprehension, pronunciation, listening, speaking and writing. I worked in a classroom environment and also one to one in study periods, and this has given me recent experience which I can use on italki with you.
2018 - 2019
Specialist online teacherI have delivered more than a hundred online lessons now, using a webcam and a modern interactive learning platform. Online teaching demands different skills from more traditional classroom teaching, engaging students and building rapport remotely. I'm pleased to be able to transfer this experience to you here on italki.
1988 - 1990
TEFL TeacherI worked in a private international school teaching young learners from throughout South East Asia. This gave me a good understanding of the particular problems that students from different cultures encounter when learning English.
