I am a French native teacher living in Tokyo. I have studied languages with different methods: in college (English), in full immersion (Spanish), in language schools (Japanese), and with online courses (Italian).
This is what I think:
👉 Learning random words doesn't work > Instead, learn sentences with key vocabulary using a topic that matters.
👉 I had strict teachers and it was so stressful, that I wanted to give up > Learning a language should be fun! If you are not having fun, the method is wrong.
👉 Without pronunciation teaching and speaking practice, you will never be able to speak naturally > Learning the pronunciation rules is crucial to speaking AND understanding French.我的教學經歷

🎯 Speak French naturally on topics that matter to you: Why do you need to learn French?: Is it for work? Is it for tourism? Something else? It's important to focus on common structures and vocabulary that French people use in real life and in contexts you are interested in.

I use a shared Google doc in which I take notes during the class and put the homework.
✍ Homework: Dialogues, audio, grammar/vocabulary exercises from textbook, and my own vlogs and podcast episodes+ other resources youtube videos, news...)
For Beginners: We build the foundation with:

For intermediate students:
👉We have a conversation on a topic of your choice or I send you materials on a particular topic and we discuss it. During the conversation, I take notes of your grammar and pronunciation mistakes, and I suggest better ways to express yourself.我的教材

Lessons with Carine are always relaxed and never stressful. The focus is truly on learning, but in a way that isn’t too strict. She takes the time to ensure I fully understand each concept—its meaning, how to apply it, and the correct pronunciation. When introducing new grammar rules, she provides examples and helps construct sentences related to everyday life, which I find much more effective. We also sometimes touch on phonetics, learning how to produce sounds correctly and the techniques to improve pronunciation. I truly enjoy our lessons. Thank you Carine. :)

Today's session focused on grammar and how to apply it. I really enjoyed the material because it's practical and something I can actually use in everyday life, unlike textbook dialogues that often feel too formal and not always relevant. I really appreciate Carine’s teaching style and the materials she chooses to focus on.
