Having climbed the “mountain of fluency” in two foreign languages, I know exactly how hard and frustrating the journey can be, but I also know how rewarding and satisfying finally making it to the top is. To me, wrapping your head around a completely new way of thinking that often comes with achieving fluency in a language is one of the best feelings I know, and I want to share it with you. As someone with a strong background in science, my specialty is scientific communication and technical writing. I also think my experience in grappling with abstract scientific concepts has taught me to explain grammatical concepts and semantic nuances in a concise and easily understandable way.

El finlandés tiene fama de ser un idioma difícil, pero yo creo que el problema no es la dificultad sino que tiene una lógica diferente a la del español o el inglés. Por eso, al principio hay que sumergirse en la estructura del idioma (qué es super interesante! y que además explica un poco la forma de ver el mundo de los finlandeses). (Ahora) esto no quiere decir que vamos a dejar la práctica de lado. Vamos a utilizar el idioma desde la primera clase.

Experienced and Certified Native Finnish Teacher I have been teaching since 2014 when I received my teaching certificate. I have worked in language centers around the world, eg. Ireland, China, Japan, New Zealand. I am specialized in teaching customized communicative Finnish: from total beginners to intermediate students, levels A0 - B2. I have plenty of experience teaching all levels, all ages, students of different backgrounds and various language goals. My students have been a mixture of entire kindergarten groups, pensioners, business professionals, language enthusiasts, exchange students and test preppers, etc. As someone who enjoys learning new, I love helping students in their own language journeys.

As a teacher I am encouraging, and try to activate my students to use as much Finnish as possible. People usually tell me they can be themselves in my company. This no stress state helps them to express themselves better in Finnish as the brain has no reason to activate the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze response) which would compromise higher brain functions. I have about 2000 hours of teaching experience, mostly online but also face to face.

I love learning languages myself, and it's inspiring to see others be inspired to learn as well. I want to encourage my students to not be afraid to make mistakes. My lessons will focus on conversational practice instead of formal lessons, but I want to help my students to improve in an efficient way and will correct their mistakes as needed.

I do not teach in a traditional way, which may take some time to get used to. However I would encourage you to take the leap.
